Lemuel Cornick Shepherd, Jr. (b. Feb. 10, 1896, Norfolk, Va.-d. Aug. 6, 1990), received his commission from the Virginia Military Institute in 1917. He reached the rank of brigadier general in July 1943, then major general in September 1944.
